The city of Buenos Aires is yet again rolling out a new festival.
The first Festival de la Bici (Bicycle Festival) is set to take place this weekend, October 27 and 28.
Under the motto, ‘Two days, Two wheels, A Thousand Things to See,’ the event is another push to promote two-wheel transportation in Buenos Aires. The festival will feature bike demonstrations, repair workshops, films, music, games, street art, group bike rides and two bike-themed fashion shows.
Events at the Bicycle Festival
Beginning at 2 p.m. at the Planetarium there will be BMX trick demonstrations, games for kids and adults, stands with bike-related merchandise, exhibitions featuring the latest in bike technology, a Shimano bike workshop and various thematic bike rides for those who show up on two wheels.
On Saturday and Sunday from 3 p.m. film screenings begin at the city’s new ‘Audiovisual District’ in Palermo with a selection of shorts from the international Bicycle Film Festival.
Films include ‘Let’s Didgeridoo This,’ featuring BMX bikers in the Australian outback; ‘Camper Bike: Kevin Cyr,’ about an artist who has a camper van attached to his bike, and ‘Mark on Allen,’ a Spike Jonze short about the bike skills of pro skater, Mark Gonzales.
On Sunday at the Parque Centenario Amphitheater a concert will kick off at 3:30, featuring four up-and-coming bands: Utopians, Liers, Val Veneto and of course, Bicicletas.
Following the concert, at 8 p.m. the festival will close with a screening of the animated French film, ‘The Triplets of Belleville.’
